How to Achieve Complete Elimination of Rats

Many are the times when homeowners or businesses have tried to get rid of rats without success. Hiring the right rat control company can be great, but you need to know some key details. You, of course, want the process to be easy, cheap and effective.

Sanitation

Before treating the rat problem using rat traps or poisons, you have to look into sanitation first. You don't want to catch or kill just a few rats and have them multiply once more. You need to get rid of the conditions that are bringing them to your home or business.

Rats are attracted to food sources. How are you storing your food and disposing of your waste? You should have rodent-proof containers and bins and make sure the storage and disposal area is clean. This means that if there is any spillage, you need to clean it up immediately.

Do You Have Pets?

People usually forget that pet food can attract rats. How are you storing your pet food? When you serve your pet, are you overserving in such a way that your pet will not completely finish their food? You need to note your pet's consumption and feed exactly what they need to make sure they empty their food bowls. After they empty the food bowls, pick them up and store them away, as leaving them somewhere rats can access will bring rats to your premises.

Nesting Areas

You need to be aware of places where rats like nesting and get rid of them or make them inaccessible. These areas may include old equipment and appliances that are not in use or cleaned regularly, as well as old furniture, holes in walls, unorganised and unclean stores, garages or attic areas, untrimmed shrubbery and dense ground plants.

Use of Poisons and Traps

After dealing with the conditions that are attracting rats to your premises, you can now think of getting poisons and traps. Most of the time you may not have to go through with this step as the rats will have moved on to another unsanitary environment, but being prepared and ensuring that your rat infestation is properly taken care of can help you feel more at ease.  However, if you're uncomfortable or unsure with how to proceed after attempting the previous steps, you can turn to a professional and reputable rat control company to safely and effectively remove your rat problem for good.
